Work out when you can retire

Preservation age is the age at which the Commonwealth Government says you can access your super provided you have met a condition of release such as permanently retired.

Your preservation age depends on when you were born, and can be quickly worked out from the following table:

Year you were born  Your preservation age
Born before 1 July 1960 55
1 July 1960 - 30 June 1961 56
1 July 1961 - 30 June 1962 57
1 July 1962 - 30 June 1963 58
1 July 1963 - 30 June 1964 59
After 30 June 1964 60

We manage a range of super products - some have different rules governing when you can access your benefits.

For example, if you have a GESB Super or West State Super account, you can access your benefit when you reach the preservation age and retire from all gainful employment. These rules are consistent with most other superannuation funds.

If you have a Gold State Super account, on the other hand, you can access your benefit when you reach 55 and retire from the WA State Public Sector.

You may also be able to access your benefit in certain circumstances other than when you retire.
