GESB's investment strategy

GESB pursues investment strategies that aim to achieve appropriate levels of return over the medium to long-term depending on the scheme or investment plan objective.

The investment plans within each of our market-linked superannuation and retirement schemes reflect varying degrees of expected risk and return. 

An experienced internal team

GESB employs a highly experienced and dedicated Investment Team to manage the investment portfolio on behalf of its members.  There are few super fund managers in Western Australia with the expertise and resources to effectively manage and administer the investment of members' money.  Typically these functions are fully outsourced to other parties.  At GESB, we undertake a range of investment management and administration functions.

Support from external investment managers

GESB appoints a diversified group of external investment managers, selected for their expertise in a particular asset class and their ability to replicate the performance of a particular index. GESB typically appoints multiple investment managers in each asset class so as to mitigate the risk of having a concentrated exposure to one investment manager or investment style.

All external investment managers are closely monitored and reviewed regularly to ensure they are adhering to our investment guidelines, delivering on risk and return objectives and maintaining a consistent investment process. Where circumstances dictate, we may change our external investment managers.

The Investment team also works closely with our asset consultant, our global custodian and other key service providers to ensure an optimal investment outcome is achieved for all members.
