Find lost super

Have you lost superannuation?

If you've worked since 1992 or ever changed your jobs, address or name, you may have lost super.

If you have, you're not alone. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) keeps a Lost Members Register, containing some 5 million lost members.

How to find your lost super

If you think you may have unclaimed super, use the ATO's online SuperSeeker tool.  It will search for your lost super and provide you with matches using your Tax File Number, name and date of birth.

Follow these three simple steps to reclaim your lost super.

  1. Have your Tax File Number on hand, and visit the ATO SuperSeeker.
  2. Once you have read and agreed to the ATO's privacy policy, enter your Tax File Number to search for lost superannuation matches.
  3. If you find some lost super, print or save a copy of the information and complete a GESB Super Consolidation form.

Then, sit back and let GESB help. Providing your 1Place form is completed correctly, signed and returned with proof of your ID, we'll do the rest!

To avoid losing super in the future, you should:

  • make sure you've provided your Tax File Number to your super fund.
  • advise your superannuation fund if your address, name or employment circumstances change.
  • register for Member Online to make managing your super even easier.
  • read the mail we send you and set up a file to keep important documents together.

Case Study: Jasmine's story

Jasmine took a career break and went travelling around Europe and Asia for a few years.  When Jasmine started work with a new employer, she couldn't remember which super funds her previous employers used.  Her address had also changed, so her previous funds had lost contact with her since statements couldn't be delivered.

Jasmine used the ATO's SuperSeeker site and found she had two unclaimed super accounts.  She was amazed to discover her lost super added up to almost $15,000 and she was still paying administration fees on these accounts.  When Jasmine completed and returned her Super Consolidatin form, GESB traced her lost super and rolled it into her existing account.
