Advice process

At GESB Financial Advice we keep the advice process as straight-forward as possible. You'll be asked to provide information to assist us along the way, and we'll keep you informed about your financial plan as it progresses.

  • Step 1 - Contact GESB: if you have a question regarding financial advice, call GESB on 13 43 72. You can also elect to have a consultant call you back at a time suitable to you. A GESB Member Services Consultant will help you determine if you will benefit from personal financial advice and, if necessary, arrange an appointment with a financial adviser.
  • Step 2 - Before your appointment: we will ask you to review your financial goals, and provide you with information on how to prepare. Part of this process involves the completion of a Financial fact find questionnaire. By completing the questionnaire, we'll have enough background information to enable a meaningful financial discussion at your initial appointment.
  • Step 3 - Initial appointment: at your initial meeting you'll typically spend about two hours discussing your financial fact find questionnaire and what you wish to achieve through financial advice. This meeting is a general discussion which allows the adviser to obtain a good understanding of your personal financial situation. At the end of this meeting, your adviser will prepare an engagement letter for you to sign acting as authority to start preparation of a financial plan, should you wish to proceed. This letter will clearly set out the areas of advice to be supplied and the agreed fee. You will be charged the fee upon receipt of the financial plan.
  • Step 4 - Strategy development: your adviser will look at your current financial position and what you want to achieve. Using financial modelling tools the adviser will prepare a step by step plan to guide you towards achieving your financial goals.
  • Step 5 - Presentation of statement of advice (SOA): at your second appointment, your adviser will present and explain your SOA and address any questions you may have, including expected outcomes, risks and fees.
  • Step 6 - Implementation: when you are satisfied with the recommendations, your plan is ready to be implemented. GESB offers a free implementation service to ensure your plan is implemented as smoothly as possible.
  • Step 7 - Review: as time passes, your circumstances may change, along with the economic, tax and legal environment. You may wish to use an annual wealth check service, which reviews your financial plan in line with changing circumstances. The wealth check service also allows you unlimited phone and email contact with your adviser as well as a quarterly newsletter.
