Changes to insurance for casual employees

3 May 2010
Currently all West State Super and GESB Super members, regardless of their employment status, may be eligible to receive automatic insurance cover when they commence employment with the Western Australian public sector. As from 1 July 2010, new casual1 employees will have the opportunity to opt in to this automatic insurance cover when they receive their new member kit.

Employer contribution increase Gold State Super scheme

Delay in insurance premium adjustments

23 April 2009
In February 2009, we advised employers that we had reviewed the occupation categories for members assigned to the (default) Heavy Blue insurance classification. We had anticipated that the adjustment would be completed by the end of March 2009. Unfortunately, there has been a delay in processing these changes for members however we anticipate that this will be completed before the end of the financial year.

GESB insurance cover - update

17 February 2009
GESB introduced changes to the insurance cover provided to West State Super members in July 2008. The changes were implemented in response to both member and employer demand for higher levels of Death and Total and Permanent Disablement Cover (TPD), more competitive insurance premiums, greater flexibility to tailor insurance cover to suit individual needs; and suitable protection from periods of temporary absence from work. GESB members have always had automatic insurance arrangements. Despite this, the changes to insurance cover, resulted in feedback from members and employers that identified some unintended consequences of implementing the changes. GESB moved quickly to understand the issues and to work on solutions to address concerns raised.
