Quarterly investment update - March 2013 The major developed world stock markets made an impressive start to 2013 with a strong first quarter, on the back of continued central bank stimulus, improving US economic data and a perceived reduction in general macroeconomic risk. The UK (9.8%) and US (10.6%) were strong performers, but the standout was Japan which gained 19.3% for the quarter and has now posted its best two-quarter performance since 1972.
